Stripe Universal and Stripe Payment Intents

When integrating Stripe with Blesta, choosing the correct gateway is important. Blesta.club provides two Stripe gateways, each designed for a different billing approach: Stripe Universal and Stripe Payment Intents.

Although both extensions connect Blesta to Stripe, they are intended to be used in different scenarios and should not be considered interchangeable.

Stripe Universal

Stripe Universal is a general-purpose Stripe gateway for Blesta. It provides a straightforward way to accept payments through Stripe and record those payments within Blesta.

The gateway is installed as a single extension and does not require any additional plugins. Its responsibility is limited to processing payments when they are made and passing the result back to Blesta.

Stripe Universal is suited to installations where payments are handled individually and where future charges are not applied automatically using stored payment methods.

Stripe Payment Intents

Stripe Payment Intents is designed for installations that require payment method storage and ongoing billing capabilities.

This gateway works in conjunction with a manager plugin, which allows Blesta to retain payment methods and reuse them for future charges. This makes it appropriate for recurring billing and other scenarios where payments may occur without the client re-entering payment details each time.

Because of this expanded role, Stripe Payment Intents involves a more complex setup than Stripe Universal.

Understanding the Difference

Both gateways integrate Stripe into Blesta, but they serve different purposes within the billing system.

Stripe Universal focuses on accepting payments at the time they are made.

Stripe Payment Intents focuses on managing payment methods and enabling future billing actions.

The presence of a manager plugin is a key distinction and reflects the additional responsibilities handled by Stripe Payment Intents.

Choosing the Appropriate Gateway

Stripe Universal is appropriate if you require a simple Stripe gateway with minimal setup and no reliance on stored payment methods.

Stripe Payment Intents is intended for installations that rely on stored payment methods and recurring or delayed billing.

Each gateway is provided to support a specific billing model within Blesta. Selecting the correct one ensures that Stripe behaves as expected for your installation.
